What it does
The Vid bot is the shorthand version of Telegram's official inline video search. Type @vid followed by a search query in any chat, and pick a result to share a YouTube video. Same service as @youtube under a four-letter username.
Why people use it
- Faster to type than @youtube while doing the same thing.
- Find and share videos without opening a browser.
- Works in any chat, no need to add it anywhere.
How to use it
- Open any chat on Telegram.
- Type
@vidin the message field followed by a search term. Example:@vid telegram founders. - Pick a result from the dropdown. The bot posts the video card.
What you can search
| You type | You get |
|---|---|
@vid then a song name |
Matching videos, ready to send |
@vid then a channel name |
That creator's videos |
@youtube then the same query |
Identical results, longer to type |
@vid and @youtube are the same bot under two usernames. There is no difference beyond the six characters you save.
How inline bots work
Inline bots are the easiest kind to use and the least understood. You never add them to anything.
Type the bot's username into any message box, add a space, then your query. Results appear above the keyboard and tapping one sends it. It works in any chat, including group chats the bot is not a member of and channels you do not own, because nothing is ever added to the conversation except the result you pick.
Nobody in the chat sees the search itself, only what you send. That also means there is no permission to grant and nothing to remove afterwards.
Worth knowing
Sending a result posts a link with a preview rather than the video file itself, so playback happens in the viewer's own player or browser.
Behind the app
